Veronica Gornall

Situated in Lancashire, from the small village of Goosnargh, fine artist Veronica Gornall works from her home built studio, skilfully crafting her latest endeavours. Veronica works in most mediums including acrylic, watercolour, pastel, pen and ink and predominantly, oils.

ABOUT

Educated (for five idyllic years) at the Harris School of Art, Veronica achieved an NDD National Diploma in art, painting and lithography. This was then followed by a City and Guilds 7307 teacher’s cert at Preston College.

Starting her career, Veronica taught traditional drawing and painting skills at the adult evening classes set at Longridge High School. She also taught the same skills in her own private classes.

Whilst working for Longridge Youth and Community Service as a steward and part time youth worker, she formed an ART CLUB. The club was dedicated to teaching young children who loved art and creativity, but it also offered them extra guidance to see them through their education.

Veronica’s work with the local area continued when she began working for the NHS in a medium secure unit for people with mental health problems for 12 years. As a technical instructor she helped facilitate a creative space for people to develop their artistic skills or expression through art and design.

Veronica currently works part time for the NHS - which gives her the opportunity to continue and develop her work. As a committee member of Preston Art Society, she has exhibited her work at the Harris Museum in Preston and with the Art Society and collaborative exhibitions locally.

INFLUENCES

Veronica’s painting has been and is still a progression of ‘Discovering Self.’ With each piece, she likes to create an atmosphere in the painting and capture that ‘moment in time’. Her influences derive from many of the old masters like Leonardo, Raphael and Durer for their skill and attention to detail. However, she also gets excited by the fluidity of the Impressionist’s, the vitality of Expressionists and the colours of the Fauves. She describes her work as not only a reflection of her rural background but her experiences from time spent abroad.
